Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't my voice being recognized?

Make sure you've granted microphone permission in your iPhone Settings. Go to Settings > FollowFollow > Microphone and ensure it's enabled. Also, try speaking clearly and in a quiet environment for best results.

How do I enable location features?

Quick Capture location saving requires location permission. Go to Settings > FollowFollow > Location and select "While Using the App" to save your current location when using Quick Capture.

Why aren't my reminders speaking?

Check these settings: 1) Ensure your phone isn't in Silent Mode (flip the side switch). 2) Make sure your volume is turned up. 3) Check that notifications are enabled for FollowFollow.

What does "Pending Audio" mean?

When you see "Pending Audio" on a reminder, it means the voice message hasn't been generated yet. This typically happens when:

  • You created the reminder while offline (no internet connection)
  • There was a temporary network issue during creation
  • The audio generation was interrupted

To fix this:

  1. Make sure you have an internet connection
  2. Tap on the reminder to open it
  3. Tap the "Retry" button
  4. Wait a few seconds for the voice to be generated

The Retry button will regenerate the voice message using AI. Once complete, your reminder will speak to you when it's due. Without the voice audio, the reminder will still fire but will use a standard notification sound instead of a spoken message.

Why don't reminders make sound when my phone is face down?

iPhones with Face ID have a feature called "Attention Aware Features" that automatically silences notifications when your phone is placed face down. This is a hardware-level feature that uses the proximity sensor.

To always hear reminders (even face down):

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap Face ID & Passcode
  3. Enter your passcode
  4. Scroll down and toggle OFF "Attention Aware Features"

Note: This setting also controls whether your phone lowers volume when you're looking at the screen. Disabling it means notification sounds will always play at full volume.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To cancel your subscription, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find FollowFollow in the list and tap Cancel Subscription. You'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period.

How do I make reminders work during Sleep Mode or Focus Mode?

By default, iOS blocks most notifications during Sleep Mode, Focus Mode, or Do Not Disturb. FollowFollow uses Time Sensitive notifications which can break through these modes if you allow them.

To allow FollowFollow through Focus Modes:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap Focus
  3. Select your Focus mode (e.g., Sleep, Do Not Disturb)
  4. Press and hold on the Focus setting to see options
  5. Tap Settings or the ... menu
  6. Under "Allowed Notifications", enable "Time Sensitive Notifications"

Alternative method:

  1. Go to Settings - Focus - [Your Focus Mode]
  2. Tap "Apps" under "Allowed Notifications"
  3. Tap "Add App" and select FollowFollow

With Time Sensitive enabled, your voice reminders will play even during Sleep Mode or Do Not Disturb.

How does the notification system work?

FollowFollow uses a 3-stage notification system to make sure you never miss a reminder, even if your phone is locked or you're not looking at it:

Stage 1: Heads-Up (7 minutes before)

A voice notification that says "Heads up! In 7 minutes: [your reminder]. Time to get ready!" This gives you advance warning so you can prepare.

Stage 2: Alarm Wake-Up (30 seconds before)

A loud alarm sound with a text notification: "Wake up! Your reminder is coming in 30 seconds!" This is designed to get your attention if your phone is locked or face down.

Stage 3: Main Reminder (at scheduled time)

Your full AI-generated voice message is spoken aloud. This is the personalized, caring message that FollowFollow creates just for you.

When do stages get skipped?

  • Reminder less than 15 minutes away: Stage 1 (7-min heads-up) is skipped - you'll still get the 30-second alarm and main reminder
  • Reminder less than 30 seconds away: Only the main reminder fires immediately

How it works with iOS:

All three stages use iOS's native notification system. Each notification is scheduled separately, meaning they will fire even if the app is closed or your phone is locked. The notifications are marked as Time Sensitive, so they can break through Focus Mode if you've enabled that setting (see the Focus Mode FAQ above).

Note: iOS allows a maximum of 64 scheduled notifications at once. If you have many reminders, older notification stages may be replaced by newer ones.

Can I export my reminders?

Yes! Go to Settings > Data Management > Export All Data. This will create a file containing all your reminders, saved locations, and settings that you can share or save for backup.

Why did the AI misunderstand me or schedule the wrong time?

FollowFollow uses AI (powered by OpenAI) to understand your voice commands and extract the time, date, and message from what you say. While the AI is generally accurate, it's not perfect and may occasionally:

  • Misinterpret ambiguous phrases like "next Friday" or "this evening"
  • Mishear words in noisy environments
  • Schedule reminders at unexpected times
  • Generate messages that don't quite match what you intended

What you can do:

  1. Always review your reminders after creating them
  2. Tap on any reminder to edit the time, date, or message
  3. Speak clearly and be specific with times (e.g., "3:00 PM" instead of "this afternoon")
  4. Delete and recreate if the reminder is completely wrong

We're continuously working to improve accuracy, but AI interpretation will always have some margin of error. Think of FollowFollow as a helpful assistant that occasionally needs a quick correction.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings > Data Management > Delete All Data. You'll need to type "DELETE" to confirm. This will permanently remove all reminders, saved locations, audio files, and settings. This action cannot be undone.

Why is the app using battery in the background?

FollowFollow may use background activity to process scheduled notifications and generate voice audio. We've optimized battery usage. If you notice high battery usage, you can check Settings > Battery to see detailed usage.

How does the free tier work?

FollowFollow offers a free tier with limited features - you can create a limited number of reminders and imports. No payment information is required. Upgrade to Basic or Premium for more reminders and unlimited imports.

Important: Don't Store Sensitive Information

FollowFollow is not designed for storing sensitive personal data. Please do not enter:

  • Social Security numbers or government IDs
  • Credit card or banking information
  • Medical records or health information
  • Passwords or security credentials

Voice recordings and text are processed by AI services. For your privacy and security, keep your reminders general. See our Terms of Service for details.

Is my data private and secure?

Yes! Your reminder data is stored locally on your device. Voice recordings are processed in real-time and not stored after conversion. We use industry-standard encryption for any data transmission. Read our Privacy Policy for more details.

What languages does FollowFollow support?

FollowFollow supports English, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese for voice recognition and spoken reminders. You can change the language in the app settings.
